INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana State Teachers Association and the National Education Association say they'll find enough money to pay 650 people receiving long-term disability benefits from the state union's troubled insurance trust.
Union officials have said that they didn't have enough money to cover the long-term disability claims, which could cost $45 million to $65 million over several years. But ISTA will hold a news conference Tuesday announcing that it and the NEA will cover the claims.
NEA Trustee Ed Sullivan says the state union will have to cut costs to come up with the cash. He says teacher dues could increase. It's unclear whether ISTA will layoff any employees.
