INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A state representative from Gary says he's withdrawing his proposal to move 1 of the city's two riverboat casinos.
Democratic Rep. Charlie Brown says creating a new state budget is the primary focus of the special legislative session. He says he doesn't want to see that focus changed by Republicans complaining about back-door attempts to expand gambling, so he pulled his proposal.
Brown's plan would have moved 1 of Gary's casinos to help finance a trauma hospital in northwest Indiana. He says the issue is still important and he'll ask the governor to help find funding to pay for the hospital project.
