LEBANON, Ohio (AP) - A judge says a football player awaiting trial on charges including assault cannot play for his Ohio high school.
Police say 18-year-old Michael Pearson, of Franklin, was arrested after allegedly breaking another student's jaw on July 13.
Pearson is on house arrest and scheduled for trial in January. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, menacing and violating a protection order.
His attorneys asked that he be allowed to play for Carlisle High School. The team could make the state playoffs with a victory Friday.
Pearson was Carlisle's lead running back in 2008. He was on this season's roster but did not register any statistics. A message was left Thursday at the office of Pearson's attorney.
