St. Ursula Academy students collect 30,000 lbs. of food for needy

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- St. Ursula Academy students, faculty and staff collected more than 30,000 pounds of food to help feed the needy this holiday season, both here in the Tri-state and for the student's mission trip to Lucy's Mission in Harlan County, Kentucky.

The school's partnered with the Appalachia food bank for 17 years to bring boxes of food every November.

"It's really important to us here to be involved in the community and to really do what we can to help people in need," says St. Ursula student Amanda Lietz.

Students had the goal of collecting 25,000 pounds of non-perishable food, they collected that and more by canvassing their neighborhoods over the last two weeks.

Added to that, is 100 bags of potatoes, and 100 bags of fruit provided at cost by Lasita Produce.

Students will take some of it to Lucy's mission, The rest will go to charities here in the tri-state including St. Vincent de Paul, CAIN, Little Sisters of the Poor, St. George Interfaith Food Pantry, and Mercy HOME Program through Mercy Neighborhood Ministries.
