LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Authorities say the severe storms that raked across Kentucky during the night triggered damaging straight-line winds and hail but there were no tornadoes and no injuries. Authorities say more than a dozen homes were damaged in Lexington and power was cut to about 26,000 homes and businesses in central Kentucky..

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's education commissioner, Terry Holliday, is to be honored as the policy leader of the year by the National Association of State Boards of Education. For efforts to improve public education in the nation, Holliday will be given an award bestowed in the past on such figures as Gen. Colin Powell and former first lady Barbara Bush.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The U.S. Postal Service is unveiling a commemorative envelope in Louisville paying tribute to the 45th annual Street Rod Nationals. The vintage cars and trucks are returning to Louisville, where the convention runs Thursday through Sunday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Funeral arrangements are being organized for former University of Kentucky star athlete Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones, who helped Kentucky win the first two of its eight national titles in the 1940s. A funeral home in Harlan, Kentucky says it will handle services for Jones, who died Sunday at age 88.
