FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne police aren't sure why a man who wasn't being pursued by an officer pulled a gun and fired several shots. Police spokesman Jason Anthony says the officer wasn't wounded in Friday's shooting and managed to disarm the man before other officers arrived. The shooting happened after the officer stopped the man, who had a similar description to a man being sought in connection with a reported domestic dispute.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Tomorrow is the next deadline to sign up for Indiana's Do Not Call registry. Since January, the state attorney general's office says it's received more than 5,000 complaints about telemarketing calls. In some cases consumers have received calls from a live operator to says the consumer has won a large sum of money and can claim it by paying a fee.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A groundbreaking female rabbi has retired from her Indianapolis congregation after 26 years. Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso retired last week from the Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. She became the first female ordained rabbi from the Jewish Reconstructionist movement in 1974. Sasso will begin work at Butler University in January.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A study by the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs shows many public officials aren't aware their counties have 211 systems in which callers can find social services for help. Researchers surveyed around 1,000 local government officials, including mayors and school board members. More than 80% of those who said their counties didn't have a 211 system were, in fact, in counties that did.
