BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - An Ohio business executive who gave millions of dollars to Indiana University has died at the age of 89.
School officials say Edward L. Hutton died Tuesday. He grew up in the southern Indiana city of Bedford and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from IU.
He was president and CEO of Cincinnati-based Chemed Corp., the parent company of Vistas Healthcare and Roto-Rooter, for 30 years until stepping down in 2001.
Hutton gave $9 million to Indiana in 2003 to establish an endowment for international study. The new Hutton Honors College building was recently completed and is to be dedicated April 8.
IU President Michael McRobbie says Hutton was a modest and unassuming man who wanted others to have the same opportunities from education that he did.
