And there are quite a few of them. Many in the Tri-State think it is the right thing to do.
"I think it is, yes most people do think that, that I've spoken to anyway," said area resident Pam Dunn.
The Web site, www.freeryanwidmer.com, was created by Mike Mayleben for people who followed the case and felt this conviction was a mistake.
"I felt by harnessing the power of the Internet we could be able to make a difference. That's what my goal was and it looks like it is coming true," said Mayleben.
Mayleben said use of the site picked up a lot after news of the new trial.
"Its really picked up. There are over 100 users on at all times. We've had over 1000 visitors over 5,000 hits just today alone," said Mayleben.
"Actually, I think it's a good idea just from what I've read, you know as far as the jurors having their own demonstrations. Its probably a good idea," said Dunn.
Widmer's family is thrilled, as well.
"I don't know that I would have personally been able to make it through the past couple months if it hadn't been for the support and I just thank everybody so much," said Jill Widmer, Ryan's mother.
Mayleben didn't know Widmer or his family. He says he felt this case was just a horrible example of a local justice system that sent an innocent man to jail. But now that same justice system is providing Ryan with a new chance.
"I was surprised just because I was not expecting it. This morning I had perm-a-grin. I could not wipe the smile off my face. It definitely got the day started right," said Mayleben.
Obviously, not everyone supports the move. Several people FOX19 spoke with objected to the new trial, but did not go on camera about their opinion.
