Cincinnati, OH (FOX19) - Two Colerain High School football coaches have been suspended by the OHSAA for a recruiting violation.
Colerain Athletic Director Dan Bolden responded to FOX19 with a prepared statement that reads:
"As you can see by the OHSAA press release, the situation was handled by the Northwest Local School District. The investigation also revealed that this situation occurred without the knowledge of the school, head coach, or the rest of the staff. We look forward to putting this issue behind us and building toward the 2012 season."
The OHSAA did not release the names of the coaches, but did release the following information in a release:
The Northwest Local School District in Cincinnati investigated a recruiting complaint from a parent of a student at Northwest High School in which a meeting took place between football coaches from Colerain High School, the mother and her son. An administrator from the district and the district's attorney then conducted interviews with the coaches, the parent, her son and other witnesses. After recommendations made by the attorney were approved by the district's board of education since it was determined that school policy and OHSAA Bylaw 9, Recruiting, were violated, the two coaches were reprimanded; one coach was suspended from all activities (as a paid or volunteer coach) with all athletic programs at Colerain High School from February 3, 2012, through August 1, 2013, and the other coach was suspended from all activities (as a paid or volunteer coach) with all athletic programs at Colerain High School from February 3, 2012, through December 9, 2012. The OHSAA commended the school district for its handling of the case and, besides accepting the penalties as imposed, added a fine of $500 for the infraction.
