More than 2,100 people participated in the sixth annual Sophie's Angel Run Sunday. The annual 5k is held to benefit pediatric brain tumor research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
The run is in honor of Sophia Grace Meinhardt who died suddenly in 2006 at the age of 18 months from an Atypical Teratoid Rabhdoid Tumor. Sophie's parents Mark and Missy Meinhardt sought to "become better, not bitter," when their little girl died.
Not including the proceeds from this year's run, the even has contributed over $250,000 to advance pediatric brain tumor research since Sophie's death in 2006.
The race began at 1:00 p.m. at St. Jude Church on the West Side.
