New coaches at Tennessee, Auburn and Arkansas will give us the first glimpse of their teams in Saturday's SEC spring games. Two-time defending national champion Alabama and Mississippi State also give fans a break from the long college football offseason.
The October edition of Sports Illustrated features a story on former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu and says the Honey Badger received benefits that could affect his future eligibility. However, a local nightclub owner disputes what the article alleges.
Mathieu was dismissed from LSU on August 10th, according to sources, for failing multiple drug tests.
Mathieu wants to play for LSU next year after undergoing drug rehabilitation in Houston, but that may be in jeopardy. According to SI, since last January, Mathieu has allowed his image to be used on a flyer promoting an event at a local night club, appeared in several promotional videos online and, multiple sources told SI, received benefits at the club that could affect his eligibility.
However, the owner of that nightclub said Tuesday that Mathieu's photograph was used in the club's promotional material without Mathieu's permission. The owner says the photograph should not have been used. The owner's comments are not included in the Sports Illustrated article.
