Few voting problems reported in Hamilton County

Posted: Updated:

Hamilton County elections officials report heavy early turnout.

One precinct in Evanston got a late start because there was no one to open the doors at 6:30AM.

Sally Krisel, Assistant Director of Board of Elections says they've been fielding a lot of calls about provisional ballots. "We're seeing more this time people who are maybe voting with a provisional envelope, trying to put it through the scanner so we're seeing some jams, a lot more jamming with the equipment."

Krisel says the Board has received complaints from voters who report that they were told to cast a provisional ballot when they should have been allowed to vote normally. "Sometimes the poll workers are saying you have to vote a provisional ballot and as soon as we hear that that's happening somewhere we talked to the judges and make sure they understand."

The voters FOX19 talked to say they had no problems.

Bob Sheil of Anderson Township says he knew who he was going to vote for long before he went to the polls. "I had looked at both of the candidates and all the candidates, I've read the newspaper and I pretty well had my mind made up in the past week."

The election is a drawing attention from media all over the world including the Canadians. Alison Crawford with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation says "The U.S. Election is very big news in Canada. I know our network we have a huge election special tonight. Canadians follow American politics very, very closely."
