CARROLL COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – A documentary
more than two years in the making has scheduled to shoot the most critical
scene of the film.
On Saturday, the crew of the film
Impact, based on the May 14, 1988 Carrollton bus crash, will shoot the bus
crash scene.
The school bus was on its way to drop
children off after a trip to Kings Island when Larry Mahoney, who was
drink drunk, drove the wrong way on Interstate 71 and slammed head-on into the
bus.
The crash killed 27
people, mostly children. Thirty-four of the 67 passengers were injured, many of
them suffering serious burns.
Harold Dennis, a survivor of the crash
and a producer of the documentary, said the production will be an emotional one,
"One of the adult chaperones that was killed, Chuck Kida, his brother John is coming
from Columbus and will portray Chuck."
The 36-year-old driver of the bus, who
was also killed in the crash, will be played by his son - who is now 36 years
old.
The producers hope to debut the film
in 2013 on the day that marks the 25th anniversary of the crash.
