A judge has found a Middletown father and stepmother guilty of locking a 12-year-old girl in a basement.
Visiting judge Matthew Crehan found Shawn and Joanna Blackston guilty on Friday morning after three days of testimony.
They were arrested in July after authorities said they found the girl in the basement, dirty and underweight. She testified that she was locked in the basement, denied food and punished with cold showers. She weighed 74 pounds when she was found by investigators.
Joanna Blackston testified that the girl needed discipline and that the door was locked to keep toddlers in the home from falling down stairs.
Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18. Each of them face six months in jail.
