CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Ryan Freel's family is offering insights into the life and career of the former Cincinnati Red.
Freel, 36, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Florida home on Dec. 22.
In an interview with the New York Times, Freel's ex-wife, Christie Moore Freel, said she had become more and more concerned about Freel's health while he was a baseball playing. She said he would come home night after night saying he blacked out or 'saw stars.'
Freel's step-father, Clark Vargas, said Freel suffered 15 concussions during his life, 10 while playing baseball.
The family is hoping to get answers and have approved his tissue donation to search for evidence of CTE, or chronic traumatic
encephalopathy, which has been studied in NFL players.
