NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

While many probably started New Year's Day with a hang over, some ambitious people hit the pavement.

Cincinnati was one of the 25 cities across the county to host 'Commitment Day 5K' on Tuesday.

Men, women, families, co-workers and neighbors ran the 5K, beginning and ending at Newport on the Levee.

Organizers say Commitment Day was started in an effort to motivate people to adopt healthy lifestyles and active lives.

Thousands of people participated simultaneously in the 5K run, in 25 different cities across the U.S.

As part of the event, runners also fundraised for the Commitment Day Founding Charity Partners, including Special Olympics, MusiCares, Folds of Honor and the Life Time Foundation.
