LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The search for Indiana University student Lauren Spierer continues as her parents give an inside look at what life is like without her.
This Thursday, Lauren would have celebrated her 22nd birthday. Her story is featured in the latest issue of People magazine. Her parents hope by opening up, they will re energize the case.
In the magazine, Charlene Spierer stands in her New York home looking at the boxes she and her husband Robert packed from Lauren's Bloomington apartment.
"Those are the things we packed up last year and shipped back home," said Robert Spierer. "We've been unable to open those boxes."
Over the past 19 months, the Spierers' level of frustration has run higher. Their expectations about finding Lauren alive are lower. They're hoping that by telling their daughter's story to People, they'll finally get that one lead that will solve the case.
"We do believe someone knows what happened to Lauren and where she is. That is the person or persons we are trying to reach," said Robert Spierer.
Lauren was last seen on June 3, 2011 at the intersection of 11th Street and College Avenue in Bloomington. It's been reported that she was walking home alone toward her apartment after a night out at Kilroy's Sports Bar.
"Possibly she was drugged while she was in Kilroy's, so that when she left she was in a state where she had no control," said Robert Spierer.
The article in People includes family photos and pictures of Lauren as a child and with her friends. There are also pictures capturing Lauren's parents pleading to the community for help. The pictures will never capture how much pain they feel.
Robert Spierer said having the magazine's staff inside their home was difficult. They didn't go into Lauren's room. They wanted the public to know they are compelled to get answers to Lauren's disappearance.
"What gets us through is the fact that we are parents of a girl, a little girl who is missing and doesn't have a chance to speak for herself," said Robert Spierer. "We have to be her voice."
Anyone with information on the Lauren Spierer case should contact the Bloomington Police Department at 812-339-4477.
The website findlauren.com is dedicated to search efforts and offers an email address, helpfindlauren@gmail.com. A post office box for tips has been established at Find Lauren, P.O. Box 1226, Bloomington, IN 47402.
