HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

A Hamilton police officer was injured Tuesday afternoon during a foot chase with a suspect.

Just before 1 p.m., officers were called to the Kroger on Erie Highway on a report of a man who was in the process of shoplifting items.

As officers were arriving at the location, the suspect was observed running from the store southbound on Rt. 4.  After a foot chase of nearly one mile the suspect was apprehended in the 2500 block of Dixie Hwy.

While pursuing the suspect an officer received injuries to both hands and arms when he slipped and fell while attempting to gain control of the suspect.

During the course of the theft investigation, it was learned that in addition to stealing items from the store, the suspect  had also exposed himself to an adult female, and a minor (14 year old) female while inside the store.

Darren Barnett, 27, of Cincinnati, is charged with two counts of Public Indecency, one count of Resisting Arrest and one count of Theft.  A check of Barnett's criminal history revealed he also has numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Hamilton County Ohio for similar type offenses.

Barnett is being held at the Butler County Jail.
