INDIANPOLIS (WAVE) - Visitors to Indiana's strip clubs might have to pay a new tax.
Lawmakers are being asked to pass a $5 tax by groups that help victims of sexual assault.
The Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault said most communities in the Hoosier state do not have adequate services for survivors of sex crimes.
Illinois, Utah and Texas already have a similar tax. The charges bring $10 million a year to the Lonestar state.
Sidney Hardgrave, the director of Holly's House said, "Most the agencies that provide these services are not-for-profits. They are stretched to meet the needs in their community and certainly have needs that could be met better."
While many do not think highly of strip clubs in general, supporters of the tax said as long as some of the money benefits those who need it, there should not be a problem.
