(RNN) - The country paused for two somber anniversaries this week.
Florida teen Trayvon Martin was killed one year ago, sparking controversy after neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman said he shot Martin in self defense. Martin's death led to protests across the country about race relations and Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law.
Americans also remembered the anniversary of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed 6 people and injuring more than 1,000. Terrorist Ramzi Yousef was convicted of detonating the fertilizer truck bomb that caused the explosion.
Politicians on Capitol Hill continued to deal with looming legislative issues, trying to find a way to avert the across-the-board budget cuts included in the federal sequester.
In the meantime, the Senate held a hearing on the proposed assault weapons ban, which included testimony from victims of gun violence.
Meanwhile, a journalists' live report from a snowstorm went viral after she shared a candid moment with viewers.
