CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Elder High School's head varsity wrestling coach Dick McCoy
announced his retirement on March 6th, ending an exceptional 31-year
coaching career at the west side school.
McCoy's teams have compiled a 225-84-4 dual
meet record and 7 GCL team championships, and he has coached 41 district
champions, 32 state place winners, 4 state runners-up, and 2 state champions.
McCoy says, "We teach our kids that the sport of wrestling
is full of life lessons on and off the mat. Pride, commitment, and
integrity are the ingredients that make great people."
In recognition of
his accomplishments, Coach McCoy was inducted into the Ohio High School
Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007, and was the OHSWCA Division
I Coach of the Year in 2009.
He has been named GCL Coach-of-the-Year 11
times and has been the Cincinnati Enquirer Coach-of-the-Year 4
times.
In 2012, he was honored with the prestigious Ohio High School
Athletic Association Sportsmanship and Integrity Award.
