COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) -
The Ohio Department of Job and Family
Services (ODJFS) is warning Ohioans about two identity theft scams targeting
unemployment compensation claimants.
In one scam, a telephone caller indicates that a job
is available but says the individual must provide a credit card number and
other personal information in order to be hired.
In another scam, a telephone caller provides general
information about unemployment compensation and then asks for the individual's
Social Security number and other personal information.
ODJFS will never request credit card information or a claimant's personal
identification number, and ODJFS representatives always identify themselves by
name, title and the purpose of the call. Ohioans should never provide this
information to unsolicited or unknown telephone callers.
