Three men arrested for attempted social media scam

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Three Chicago men are accused of seeking out their victim over social media with the intent of robbing them of thousands of dollars.

Donta Williams,23, from Burnham Illinois, Darius Wells, 22, and Donneton Saddler, 22, from Chicago, IL were arrested on May 24 for attempting to scam a man to obtain his credit card.

The victim reported with the Deerfield Township Post of the Warren County Sheriff's Office  that he was contacted over social media by one of the suspects.

The suspect claimed he worked for a bank and wanted to meet the victim and get his debit card. The suspect claimed he could put $6000.00 on the victim's card and then the victim would withdraw the money and they would split it.

After the victim reported the incident to Deerfield Township Deputies, the victim continued to communicate with the suspect and they agreed to meet in the area of the Kings Automall to give up the credit card.

Deerfield Township Detectives then waited in the area and located the three men. Evidence of the scam was located in the one of the suspect's vehicle.

All were arrested and charged with Telecommunications Fraud and Obstructing Official Business. They were booked in the Warren County Jail and are scheduled to appear in the Mason Municipal Court.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone who may have been contacted over various social media asking for their credit card in a similar manner to contact the Deerfield Township Post at 513-701-1800
