BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office says children will not have to worry about Christmas getting stolen this year.

According to Sheriff Chris Curry, the 56-year-old Grinch was setting up in the Shelby County area and was looking to steal Christmas items from homes.

"Our Investigators spotted his(the Grinch's) dog, Max, at the Alabaster Dog Park, and we managed to secretly put a microphone on his collar," Curry added. "Thankfully, for our investigation, Grinch tells his dog everything."

Investigators say the Grinch was setting up operations in Shelby County and waiting for Christmas to come. Deputies were able to take the Grinch into custody after a short footchase.

"My hopes are that the citizens of our county can now relax and have a very Merry Christmas, and enjoy their families and feasts without the fear of this anti-holiday beast," Curry said.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has not announced any charges. The Grinch is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail.
