Flu hits half the country hard, including Indiana

CINCINNATI (FOX19/CNN) – Within just a week, the number of states reporting widespread flu outbreaks has doubled. 25 states now have widespread cases of the flu, including Indiana.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the flu to be widespread when people are suffering from it in more than half of a state's geographic area. In Indiana, three people have died.

In Ohio and Kentucky, there are only regional outbreaks of the flu, according to the CDC.

Doctors say it's not too late to get your flu shot. Health experts also say another great way to prevent you and your family from getting the flu is by washing your hands a lot.

The CDC expects the flu outbreak to peak this month or next.
