Plumbers work around the clock fixing burst pipes

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Homeowners have seen huge problems with pipes bursting in houses across the region. It's been a problem everywhere.

The Remmy's Kenwood home was heavily damaged after a pipe burst in the upstairs bathroom.

"That fast, there was water coming down and through the ceiling," explains homeowner Todd Remmy. "I ended up having to put on a raincoat so I could run back and forth and figure out how to put the water out."

Water made its way all the way to the basement.

"I heard a pop, and then what sounded like a mini avalanche, as if you've heard the sound where snow will slide off the roof, it was that sort of experience," says Remmy.

Remmy called for help. Plumber Justin Clay responded.

"This is the third one today," says Clay.

Clay says this winter has been horrible for this problem. Pipes have burst all over greater Cincinnati.

"You're kind of at the mercy, as if everybody else, as far as restoration companies and everybody else as far as getting people to come out," explains Clay. "It just takes time. There have been so many breaks and there is just not enough people to cover them all."

Plumbers say keep the faucet open.  As you treat the frozen pipe and the frozen area begins to melt, water will begin to flow through the frozen area.

Running water through the pipe will help melt ice in the pipe.
