GREEN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Green Township Trustee Rocky Boiman will resign his seat effective March 1, the township announced Tuesday.

Boiman announced his decision at Monday's township trustees' meeting.

Boiman cited his 1-month-old son and his travel schedule with NFL Radio Europe and ESPN Radio College Football. He also appears on several Cincinnati radio stations and operates a youth football academy in Cincinnati.

"I felt I could no longer devote the time necessary to do this job properly," Boiman said in a statement. "I struggled on what I should do. My wife Kelli and I prayed over what would be best for our family. We came to a decision that I would resign from the Green Township Board of Trustees."

Boiman was appointed to his seat in 2011 to replace Tracy Winkler who is currently the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. Boiman was the top vote getter in last November's general election for township trustee.

Boiman, 34, a native West Sider, is a former professional football player. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1998. At the University of Notre Dame, he earned a pre-med/psychology degree.

The Tennessee Titans drafted him in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL draft.  A linebacker, he played in the NFL from 2002 to 2009 with the Titans, Colts, Chiefs and Steelers. He was a member of the Colts when Indianapolis won Super Bowl XLI in 2007 over the Chicago Bears.

"Rocky has done a tremendous job as trustee. Accessible to department heads and staff alike, his professional and friendly manner set a positive tone in a difficult time when local governments are facing tremendous financial challenges,"  Green Township Trustee Tony Rosiello said. "Rocky provided leadership in many areas. This was shown by his good working knowledge of budget matters right on down to providing great staff morale."

The board will accept appointments to fill Boiman's position through 4 p.m. Feb. 14.

Applications and resumes can be delivered 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or mailed to the Green Township Administration Building, 6303 Harrison Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45247 to the attention of  Rosiello, who serves as the board's chairman. The material can also be sent to trosiello@greentwp.org.
