Airport security heightened as officials warn of shoe bomb threat

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

If you're traveling to CVG from outside of the country, expect to spend more time at security.

The Department of Homeland Security this week warned airlines to pay extra attention to the potential of terrorists hiding explosives inside of shoes.

Officials are confirming they received intelligence regarding shoe bombers entering the country, but did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

Shoe removal has been a mandatory security screening process since 2006, but TSA agents are expected focus even more on the shoes people remove and the ones they have in baggage.

The extra scrutiny is bound to mean more time in line at security, but passengers say it's a price worth paying.

"I'm fine with this as long as I'm safe and get to my destination," said one passenger FOX19's Jessica Brown spoke with at CVG.

Officials at CVG remained tight-lipped about the details of heightened security, but TSA agents will reportedly be paying extra attention to liquids and cosmetics making their way through the checkpoint as well as shoes.
