CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A University of Cincinnati professor played a role in the 2014 Winter Olympics that concluded Sunday in Sochi, Russia.

Grant Schaffner, an assistant professor in UC's Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, led the design team for a skeleton sled that American Matt Antoine rode when he won a bronze medal.

Schaffner stopped by FOX19 Morning News to tell us more about the sled.

The sled is called the ProtoStar V5. Americans John Daly and Katie Uhlaender also rode the ProtoStar V5.

Daly finished in 15th place in the men's skeleton. Uhlaender placed fourth in women's skeleton.

"The sled's development was a partnership between Cincinnati-based ProtoStar Engineering, UC's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Fairfield-based Machintek Corp., deBotech Inc. of North Carolina and Carpenter Technology Corp. of Pennsylvania," UC says.

Schaffner joined the team in Russia.  Tuffy Latour, the head skeleton coach for the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, also led the design team.
