BOSTON (WHDH/WBZ/WCVB/CNN) – No bags will be allowed at this year's Boston Marathon.

The rule is part of new security measures announced Wednesday by the Boston Athletic Association.

Runners can check their gear the morning of the race and the BAA will provide clear bags. Fanny packs and fuel belts will be allowed.

The marathon is scheduled for April 21.

Last year, two homemade bombs planted near the finish line killed three people and injured more than 200 others.

Suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is awaiting trial in November. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

His brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, died in a gun battle with police following the bombings.
