A Hamilton County Municipal Court judge on Thursday found former professional football player Artrell Hawkins not guilty of domestic violence.

Police responded to a possible domestic dispute in February at a Springdale home.

Hawkins' wife told police that he had kicked the basement door in and caused her to be scared for her and her children's safety.

The trial was conducted Thursday morning. Prosecutors called four witnesses. The only defense witness was Hawkins, 37, of Symmes Township.

Hawkins played six seasons with the Bengals, one with Carolina and two with New England. His last year in the NFL was 2006, according to www.pro-football-reference.com.

A defensive back, the Bengals drafted him in the second round of the 1998 draft out of the University of Cincinnati.
