CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

More than a decade after Army Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin was captured by Iraqi terrorists and later killed, new information has come forth on his death.

Keith Maupin, Matt's father, says government officials informed him that an Iraqi inmate has admitted to killing his son. Monday, Maupin will travel to Washington to meet with defense officials.

"When your senator calls you, that's cool," said Maupin."I never thought in my wildest dreams that they would ever get the guy that actually killed Matt. What's the odds of that? One in ten million? But it's about to happen."

An Iraqi terrorist has recently admitted to killing Matt Maupin along with several other American civilians 10 years ago. A meeting Tuesday at the Pentagon may reveal what happened and the man responsible.

Maupin said he would ask the Iraqi why he killed his son who graduated from Glen Este High School in 2001.

"He don't have a weapon. He's no threat to you," Maupin said. "Just tell me why you would do that. That is what I would really like to know."

The man claiming to have taken Matt's life is already in jail charged with the homicides of other Americans.

Tuesday, Maupin will be talking with the judge in charge of the trial through a translator. Whatever the outcome, he says his support for other soldiers like Matt will never waver.

"If in fact this is who it is, it's still not going to change anything for me because you can't change anything that happened back then. But he will be held accountable for what he had done," said Maupin.

Traveling to Washington is nothing new for Maupin. He's made countless trips since his son's disappearance. He says the military made a promise to Matt when he became a soldier and Maupin is only here to see to it they keep their word.

Matt Maupin's body was found in 2008.
