Crews battle fire in annex building of Fairfield nursing home

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

A fire was reported early Thursday morning at the Parkside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield.

An employee reported the fire just after midnight in an annex building that houses the facility's laundry and equipment storage. The nursing home is located in the 900 block of Symmes Road, just off of Dixie Highway.

Upon arrival, emergency crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming through the roof of the structure.

Authorities said all patients in the adjacent area were moved by the fire department and Parkside medical staff to the north end of the building to a safe environment.

The fire was put about by 4 a.m. There were no injuries reported.

The annex building was considered a total loss with an estimate of damages still pending.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
