FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – -

A skydiver had a rough landing Wednesday night as a part of a stunt at the Florence Freedom ballpark and was taken to the hospital.

The skydiver, decked out with a patriotic parachute, floated into the stadium around 8:30 p.m. during the opening ceremonies for a celebrity softball game. A gasp could be heard from the crowd as the skydiver made an awkward landing on the field.

Emergency crews reportedly rushed the field and the skydiver was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Officials at the ballpark say he suffered a minor hip injury.

Seven vehicles collided on Mall Road at U.S. 42 near the ballpark around the same time the skydiver was floating above the stadium. Witnesses to the crash told FOX19 they believe it may have happened due to distracted drivers watching the show in the sky instead of the road.

Officials have not confirmed what caused the crash.

Five people were taken to the hospital following the accident. Authorities say they all suffered non-life threatening injuries.
